The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is currently recruiting for the position of Lead Medical Support Assistant (LMSA). The incumbent works in Primary Care Service/Ambulatory Care, Bryan/College Station Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The Lead MSA works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model (i.e. PACT, Specialty Clinic) and performs all related duties; customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients and assure appointment schedules are maintained by AMSA/MSA staff for one or more outpatient clinics. He/she must assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs. The Lead MSA monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:
assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between AMSA/MSA and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts. The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1-A facility serving Veterans in 39 counties in Central Texas. CTVHCS has two medical centers located in Temple and Waco; a stand-alone clinic in Austin; four community based outpatient clinics in Brownwood, Cedar Park, Bryan/College Station, and Palestine; two community livings centers located at the Temple and Waco campuses; a domiciliary in Temple; a Blind Rehabilitation Unit in Waco; rehabilitation units for posttraumatic stress disorder and Severe Mentally Ill Life Enhancement (SMILE) in Waco; a 40 bed Psychosocial Residential Treatment Program in Waco; and a contract Rural Outreach Clinic in La Grange. In addition, CTVHCS is affiliated with Texas A&M School of Medicine and the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston, Residency Programs. CTVHCS is a modem health care facility with computerized programs(CPRS, VistA etc.), for all activities required in the performance of incumbent duties. The incumbent will normally work at one of the locations above, but may be required to work at the other locations as necessary. Incumbent may be required to work various tours of duty on a rotating or as needed basis to provide required coverage, five ( or seven) days a week and/or evening, nights and weekends. The incumbent assists staff with a variety of clerical duties in one or more outpatient clinics that provide a variety of medical services. The incumbent must have knowledge of clinic procedures and regulations; basic medical terminology, skill in operating computer systems and applications, such as VistA, CPRS, and Microsoft applications to accurately enter or extract information. Employee performs a variety of administrative functions associated with patient care and treatment in one of several clinics performing a variety of medical services. Employee must acquire knowledge of internal organizational procedures, knowledge of various facility services, knowledge of commonly used medical terminology and abbreviations, and VA acronyms and their meaning. Incumbent must have a basic knowledge of enrollment, eligibility and beneficiary travel and will assist as a backup for these programs, as appropriate. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English. Experience and Education. (1) Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service , or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR (2) Education. One year above high school; OR (3) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must also meet the grade level requirement. Applicants must have one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-6 Advanced MSA), these duties include but are not limited to:
collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met; set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations; communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person , and in writing, with internal and external customers . This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns participates in; advanced knowledge of the technical health care process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to access to care; Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc; must have advanced knowledge of medical terminology. Grade Determinations:
GS-7 Lead Medical Support Assistant The Lead MSA is responsible for the coordination of Advanced MSA assignments and workflow found in an interdisciplinary unit. The Lead MSA is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of MSAs to provide support across interdisciplinary settings. The Lead assists the unit with complex and non-standard procedures, including clinical flow processes related to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:
ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members, to include changes in policies and procedures; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; and acting as a liaison among Advanced MSA staff, patients, and other interdisciplinary staff to resolve day-to-day conflicts. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate the following demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff . Ability to provide staff development and training. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. References:

The work is primarily sedentary and walking. The work requires the ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously in dealing with a wide variety of clients on a daily basis. Tasks will require prolonged use of computers. There are lengthy periods of sitting, interrupted by intervals of walking and climbing stairs about the medical center to make the many personal contacts required of this position.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
