SUPERVISORY MUSEUM CURATOR

As a SUPERVISORY MUSEUM CURATOR, you will:
Responsible for the planning, formulation, design, construction, and installation of exhibits. Provides information about museum objects and programs to many sources, including the President's family, the White House, professional museums, the media, and the general public. Assists in planning and execution of special activities sponsored by the Library including professional conferences and symposia. Gives lectures and other formal presentations concerning museum-related programs at professional meetings, informal presentations to community, civic, and education groups, and personally conducts visiting dignitaries on tours of the museum and exhibits. Assists in maintaining close liaison with the Library's support organization and its members for the purpose of obtaining support for the Library and fostering programs relating to the museum's holdings. Responsible for the physical care, maintenance, preservation, and security of the museum exhibit areas. Oversees the work of staff that perform collections records responsibilities and the paperwork, insurance, crating, and shipping details related to collection acquisitions and incoming and outgoing loans. Establishes a system of registration and cataloging to maintain physical and curatorial control of the museum collections. Responsible for instituting management controls that ensures the safety and integrity of the collection and completing annual inventories of museum holdings. You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. A. Degree:
museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR C. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in A above. AND For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. In addition to the basic requirements described above, applicants must also meet the Specialized Experience described below:
Conducting collections-based research and management as it pertains to proper care, registration and documentation of objects and records; AND Supporting exhibits and presentations for museum collections; AND Providing oral or written response to public inquires. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.
