Who We Are
The Department of Oceanography in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University (TAMU) is part of an alliance of Ocean Sciences at Texas A&M that spans the Marine Biology and Marine Sciences Departments at TAMU Galveston, Geochemical and Environmental Research Group. What We Want
This Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct sample analysis and interpretation, train new lab members, and travel. Travel may include, but is not limited to, sample collection at sea, participation in project meetings, presentation of results at professional conferences, and outreach activities. The project, on which the Postdoctoral Research Associate is working, will focus on analyzing samples from the West Florida Shelf with the goal of identifying sources of nutrients fueling blooms of the harmful alga, Karenia brevis. What You Need to Know
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Required Education and
Experience:
Appropriate PhD in Oceanography, Geology, Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or related field
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be capable of going to sea and performing work at sea, including collecting samples; lift/move moderately heavy weight including gas cylinders
Preferred Education and
Experience:
2 years working with isotope ratio mass spectrometers and interpreting light (i.e., C, N, O) stable isotopic data
Prior experience in a wet chemistry lab, preparing dilution series for concentration and isotopic analysis, calibrating data, troubleshooting analytical instrumentation
Familiarity with the nitrogen cycle, harmful algal blooms, and isotopic fractionation mechanisms are preferred
A willingness to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with venders, coworkers, and supervisory staff
Published at least two first-authored publications in peer-reviewed literature
Responsibilities:
Research Data Collection, Interpretation, and Processing:
Measures the concentration and isotopic composition of samples in the lab. Performs sample collection at sea and/or on land and prepares samples for analysis. Disseminates data results and generates reports. Attends scientific meetings and seminars for research enhancement.
Research Writing and Presentations
Drafts figures and prepares manuscripts for publications and presentations in scientific journals and conferences. Assists with the ideation and writing of grant proposals. Presents research at various meetings and professional conferences.
Training/Mentoring
Trains lab technicians and undergraduate/graduate students in appropriate lab protocols and tasks. Serves as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
