59 PM CentralDescription Under supervision of the Customer Service Coordinator, the Customer Service Representative I represents the City of College Station through daily customer service contact with the general public regarding City utilities.
Set up utility accounts, perform billing procedures, receive and process payments, make payment extension decisions, answer customer questions, and handle bill discrepancy and/or other complaints.
Provide accurate utility billing and collection functions related to electric, water, sewer, garbage, roadway maintenance, and drainage services.
This is the entry level of the customer service job family in which the individual is providing entry level customer service support as well as receiving and processing customer utility payments.
Positions at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of program knowledge or level as positions allocated to the Customer Service II & III level.
Principal Duties Provide face to face and/ or over the phone customer service to utility customers who have questions concerning utility services, such as connections, disconnections service transfers and polices related to billing and collection and meter services.
Document the details of customer interactions on appropriate utility accounts.
Create work orders for new connections, transfers, disconnections, non-payment service terminations, water and electric meter repairs, re-reads, and test services.
Dispatch service personnel when necessary.
Provide customers with accurate billing for electric, water, sewer, sanitation, roadway maintenance and drainage services.
Determine estimated consumption when necessary.
Perform a variety of tasks to include but not limited to, accepting and processing payments, balancing cash drawer, making credit and debit adjustments and making payment arrangements for customers when necessary.
Perform a variety of administrative duties to include, but not limited to, processing and sending draft payments to the automated clearing house (ACH).
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years customer service, clerical or administrative support experience related to the area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Possess excellent communication and customer service skills.
Knowledge of general office practices.
Basic data entry and 10-key skills.
